This explains what information ScoutBrief ("we", "us") collects when you use https://getscoutbrief.com, and how we use it.

1. Information we collect

• Account information: the email address and password you sign up with (passwords are stored as one-way hashes, never in plain text).
• Business/report inputs: the business descriptions, competitor names, and other details you enter to generate a report.
• Generated reports: the reports produced from your inputs, saved to your account so you can revisit them.
• Payment information: we never see or store your card details. Payments are handled entirely by Paddle.com, our payment processor and merchant of record — see their privacy policy for how they handle payment data.
• Basic usage analytics: anonymized page-view counts (via GoatCounter) to understand overall traffic. We don't use invasive tracking or sell data to advertisers.

2. How we use this information

• To generate the reports you request, including sending your business description to a third-party AI model (Anthropic's Claude) as part of generating the report.
• To operate your account: authentication, saving your report history, and billing.
• To communicate with you about your account or transactions.
• To maintain and improve the Service.

3. Who we share information with

We share data only with the service providers needed to run ScoutBrief: our hosting provider (Render), our payment processor (Paddle), and the AI provider used to generate reports (Anthropic). We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

4. Data retention

We retain your account information and report history for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by emailing us.

5. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these, email support@getscoutbrief.com and we'll respond as required by applicable law.

6. Cookies

We use a session cookie to keep you logged in, and no third-party advertising cookies. Our theme preference (light/dark) is stored locally in your browser, not on our servers.

7. Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data, including password hashing and encrypted connections (HTTPS). No system is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

8. Children's privacy

ScoutBrief is not directed at children under 18, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time; the date at the top will reflect the latest revision.
